Powell Industries Case Study

In 2009, Powell’s business was growing substantially and they lacked the space in their Houston facility to accommodate the increase in volume. Since they were not ready or willing to invest in a new facility in Houston or a maquiladora, they explored a variety of other options for adding manufacturing space. Although they had a facility in Juarez, Mexico, this location was not a viable option for Powell’s surplus volume as it experienced quite a bit of turnover and struggled to meet Powell’s high standards for quality.
